Somebody and Nobody

Trans-GENDER is typically defined as meaning ‘people whose GENDER differs from the sex they were assigned at birth’, but this does not tell us the context within which the two identities differ. If John has a blue car and red hair we can say his car differs from the hair he was assigned at birth, but this would not tell us what Car means, what Hair means, or what their conceptual link is, if any. In the case of sex and GENDER the lack of a link is more extreme because the two concepts are mutually exclusive.
