29th March 2014: The Day We Un-named Marriage

Naming reality

Names are the post-it notes we attach to things. Names have no inherent content whereas things do (Name is itself a name). Names can reflect the nature of a thing (Bi-cycle/two-wheel), but cannot determine the thing’s nature: the nature of Bicycle (object) exists independent of Bicycle (name). By linguistically representing things, we can share a common understanding of reality. Since existence exists before awareness of existence, things exist before their names. If we invent a name that is not attached to anything, people will ask what it means. That plastic thingy on the end of our shoelace is named Aglet. Try naming something that has no name.
